Day 39 Pueblo to Canon City 41 miles

We found an Irish Bistro in Pueblo yesterday evening and Gerry had Boxty and I had Corn Beef , cabbage and mashed potatoes, really made a change from all the fried food we have been having. This morning we were having breakfast at the City Diner and got chatting to the waitress and her nephew in a lad called Danny Pate who rides fot the SKY cycling team with Bradley Wiggins.

It was a relief this morning when we found out that Highway 50 had now been re opened,it had been closed on Thursday because of the bad fires. It was 7 miles before we were on the highway and into a head wind at an altitude of 5000 ft and the Rockies on the horizon. It was very hot by noon ,so we spent some time in the shade at a war memorial which featured helicopters,a tank and a fighter plane. We arrived in Canon City at the same time as 2,000 cyclists doing the 5 day Ride the Rockies challenge.Tomorrow is the first of three days of climbing so we plan to start early to avoid the high temperatures.that being said there is a bar in the place we are staying.
