Day 34 Great Bend to Ness City 64 miles

Thunder storm last night ,but this time we were inside.I had forgot to mention that since we arrived in Kansas most drivers wave to us ,they seem to know what we are doing. We had very strong side or head winds for the entire route today and later in the afternoon it became very hot.The landscape was the same as yesterday fields of wheat and oil pumping we were again up over 1,900 ft with a few cattle ranches and very dry river beds.we are on highway 96 and will be for the next 140 miles..Some small insects which may be crickets seem to get airborn and are thrown against us and our bikes making a "pinging"noise as they hit off our bikes ,poor things but a quick death. There were no services at all on the route today as we entered Alexander there was a religous message on the side of a hill (see photo) here we also met Ruediger Schmitt a German who was walking the Trans Am ,he walkes 25 miles a day and his wife picks him up and takes him to a hotel for overnight and then drops him back ln the route the next morning. Our stop today is at Ness City , we hope to get an early start in the morning as the forecast is for it to be very hot.

  1. Just got caught up with your blog. Read it all in a couple sittings. Thanks so much for sharing your journey and adventures. It has been a lot of fun to read, and I look forward to more. I especially love the pictures. Keep them coming! Thanks for the inspiration too. I one day hope to ride across America.

  2. I thought you might like to know that the oil pumps you have pictures of are called Oklahoma rigs. A bit of knowledge given free from the Montana oil tycoon! So happy to see the progress you are making. Well done!!!!

  3. its good to see that there is some worse than ye at least ye brought bikes

  4. Ahh Dave don’t worry too much about the insects there is always plenty more where they came from 🙂 hope the drivers are giving you plenty of space as well as a wave, stay safe on that highway. you are doing great and having a wonderful insight to america enjoy every mile.

  5. Well done guys. Great going. No excuse for not catching mass with all the choices. Will the next Ruudi be “trans-aming” on his knees?

  6. Hi lads, you are doing great, keep the photos and stories coming – very enjoyable reding them. We had a brilliant spin on Saturday morning, 18 people out (some new and some not-so-new), glorious sunshine all the way and Bernard and Tony did a great job in leading us and keeping manners on us all.

  7. Well done you are getting there
